An individual who spiked candy with sedative and provided them to minors at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys aged nine and 10.

The accused was detained after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.

Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.

The man played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She said Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel said objects including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his family member notified the police about his concerns.

She explained Ruben went on to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she added.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member contacted the law enforcement once more.

She said the defendant then played the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
