'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith renews contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the dramatic final moments of Swansea's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles following the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful effort from distance, and the defender immediately hammered in the loose ball before charging toward the East Stand to celebrate, with fans congregating around the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result sealed an extraordinary comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 during the latter period. During the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result secured a upcoming fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that far out," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before shifting to right wing-back after they changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the opposition who praised the way the underdogs played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they know how to manage and neutralize a game. You can believe you're doing well and then abruptly they will just thread a ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It requires a strong mentality and focus just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Orient and has swiftly replicated that in his new home. At the London club he reunited with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a temporary move at fourth-tier Salford City, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a slightly green going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without much intensity. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that growth for both domestically and internationally, performing well for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including home and away games against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

It has been a remarkable path for the player from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

His single match for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an plastic turf and the arena covering was closed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "It was a long trip and it was chilly," he recalls, grinning. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I felt I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's nicknamed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"It's myself a teammate, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person to stop using the bus and on the road. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

During his time at Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with supporters on public transport after beginning his trip at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
